Resiliency Services

Anwaatin is working with community leaders to strengthen biodiversity and resilience in the face of climate change.  We put in place the key factors to promote strong built and natural resource infrastructure to mitigate the impacts of climate change.  We are making sure that communities have plans and strategies in place to deal with the impacts of climate change on natural resources, infrastructure, communities and families.

Natural Gas Access & Infrastructure

Households in the north can pay eight to ten times as much for heat energy as those in the south with access to natural gas.   Natural gas is a rare and valuable commodity in rural, remote and Indigenous communities, but most non-native communities take it for granted.  Natural gas provides low-cost, safe and affordable heat, and has the added advantage of freeing up the local electrical grid to allow solar and wind generation by hugely reducing heavy electric heat loads.

At Anwaatin we are committed to enabling communities to gain access to this clean energy alternative, enable more renewable energy generation, and help unlock new energy partnerships.  We fulfill this need by:

  • Working with municipal and corporate partners to ensure effective decision-making for the placement of renewable energy projects, including wind and natural gas.

  • Brokering partnerships between Indigenous nations and natural gas utility providers that enable low-cost, low-carbon natural gas to flow into communities and provide both environmental and economic benefit to our clients

  • Helping to access funding:

a) Ontario Natural Gas Access Loan — which will provide up to $200 million over two years to help communities partner with utilities to extend access to natural gas supplies

b) Ontario Natural Gas Economic Development Grant which accelerates projects with clear economic development potential - to provide consumers in underserved communities more energy choices, make commercial transportation more affordable, attract new industry to Ontario, and benefit agricultural producers
